Yes. Spain requires proof of private health insurance for most long-stay visa types including the Non-Lucrative Visa, Digital Nomad Visa and Golden Visa. The policy must meet minimum coverage thresholds set by the Spanish government.
Travel insurance covers short trips and focuses on trip cancellation and emergency events. IPMI is a long-term solution covering routine check-ups, specialists, dental, maternity and chronic conditions. If you are relocating, you need IPMI — travel insurance is not a substitute.
